Coated Polystyrene Magnetic Particles
These magnetic particles are prepared by coating a layer of iron oxid and polystyrene onto the core of the particles. They are relativly uniform in size, spherical in shape and paramagnetic in nature. The paramagnetic nature of the particles allows them to be separated by using a magnet but the particles will resuspend easily when removed from the magnet. They will not retain any significant magnetism even after repeat exposure to strong magnetic field.
Smooth surface particleshave an additional layer of polymer coating on the surface, to cover the iron oxide coating, so iron oxide is not on the surface of a bead. The smooth particles are useful in applications, where iron oxide may interfer with e.g.enzymatic activities.

These magnetic particles can be used for cell separation, affinity purification, DNA probe assays, magnetic particle EIA etc. The coated magnetic particles are prepared by covalent coupling, concentration is around 2 x 108 particles/ml, 0,02% sodium azide added..

The Particles are supplied monodisperse in the described range, the actual size is depending on current lot.nr.

Magnetic Polymer Particles
These monodisperse particles consist of magnetite in an organic matrix of a styrene-maleic acid-copolymer. They are finally coated with a polymer layer for the encapsulation of magnetite and the introduction of chemical functionalities. The beads are designed with the surface functionalities NH2 and COOH for the covalent binding of proteins, antibodies or other molecules and are available with covalently bound proteins (avidin, streptavidin, protein A, albumin) or other biomolecules (chitosan, collagen, glutathion).

The standard size ranges are 2 to 12 microns, but they can be offered also with a maximal diameter of 25 microns on request
The beads can be offered with the nickel(II) chelator nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) or ready to use with the corresponding nickel complex (Ni-NTA) for the binding of histidine labeled proteins
They are available with various hydrophilic surfaces (poly(ethylene imin) (PEI), alkyl-OH, acrylate) and hydrophobic surfaces (octyl (C8), octadecyl (C18), octyl/octadecyl (C8C18)) or a silica surface (SiO2)

The beads can easily be separated with conventional permanent magnets.

Magnetizable Nanoparticles and magnetizable microparticles, Dextran based
The superparamagnetic nanoparticles with particle diameters of 50 nm and 100 nm consist of 35% (w/w) magnetite in a matrix of dextran (40.000 D). They can not be separated with a conventional permanent magnet. A high gradient magnetic field device (HGMF) must be used
The beads are preferable applied for detection purposes in magnetic resonance imaging or in magneto-immuno assays and are designed with the surface functionalities OH (plain), NH2 and COOH for the covalent binding of proteins, antibodies or other molecules.

The nanoparticles with diameters of 130 nm and 250 nm consist of 75-80% (w/w) magnetite and can easily be separated with a conventional permanent magnet.

Magnetic Polystyrene Particles
In many experiments the careful separation of cells or cellfragmentes is a problem. Magnetizable ( paramagnetic ) particles have the characteristic, to be magnetizated within a magnetic field. So they can be separeted easy within a solution. Outside of the magnet field the particles are not magnetic. These particles are made by coating a layer of iron oxide and polystyrene onto polystyrene core particles. The particles are useful for cellseparation, coupling of proteines, antibodies and DNA, affinity purification and DNA probe assays. The particles are monodisperse with low SD and a CV of less than 5%. They are supplied as aqueous suspension.

Magnetic Polystyrene Particles with terminal PEG- groups
These beads consists of magnetite in a polystyrene copolymerisate as organic matrix (density 1.2g/cm3). They include a final coating with terminal PEG-COOH or PEG-NH2 groups, which can be used for nonspecific or covalent binding of proteins, antibodies, DNA etc.
The particles are monodisperse with low SD and a CV of less than 6%. The magnetisation is 3.0 emu/g beads (H=1.000 Oe)
They are stable in aqueous buffers, methanol, ethanol, DMSO and are supplied as aqueous suspension.
This type of magnetic beads can also be offered with coatings of avididin, streptavidin, protein A and albumin on request.

VariMag Separation Rack for Tubes
The VariMag Separator accomodates tubes from 1,5 ml to 200 ml tissue culture bottle. It uses interchangable tube holders to secure different tube and bottle sizes. A set of three tube holders, smal-medium-large is included:

Magnetic Silica particles - 6 µ diameter; with different surfaces
These magnetic microparticels have a cluster size of 3-10 m with a mean diameter of 6 µ. They show a homogeneous distribution of magnetite in the silica matrix. They can be separated easily also in high viscous media by standard permanent magnets.
  • Density is 2,25 g/ ccm
  • Magnetisation is 6.0 emu/g particels (H= 1000 Oe)
  • The beads are very stabel in aqueous buffers > 3.0, in organic solvents and can widestand high temperatures
  • They are not stabel in hydrofluoric acid and strong basic media, e.g. 6 M NaOH
  • The plain beads have a binding capacity of 5 -10 µg plasmid-DNA ( after 1 - 1,15 ml overnight bacteria culture)
  • The beads are also availabel in fluorescent green and red to combine separation and detection.

Magnetic Silica particles - a fast method for DNA/RNA purification and Protein separation
Separation techniques are goinig to be more and more important in biotechnology, to get on cost efective, simple , reproducable ways and by using automatisation systems. The large surface area of 50m2/g provides a high capacity to bind cells, bacteria, DNA/RNA , proteines or antibodies.
These paramagnetic uniform non porous silica particles are with 80% magnetit content allow simple magnet separation. The are supolied in double destilled H2O, but can be offered in powder form on request.

main applications of the chemical modifications:
Silanol:DNA & RNA techniques, purification of genomic DNA, plasmid DNA, viral DNA or PCR products. DNA/RNA bind to the silica beads under high salt conditions as 4 mol NaL or 5 mol GuSNC.
Silanol-ROB: especially developed for use of DNA/RNA separation in robotic systems.
Carboxyl: binding of bioactive substances by the Carbodiimide methode
Amino:binding of bioactive substances by the Carbodiimide methode
Cyanuric replaces Chloromethyl due to better binding characteristics
Streptavidin: biotin labeled molecules
Biotin:avidin/streptavidin labeled molecules
